The Stations of the Cross have formed part of Christian devotion at Passiontide for many centuries because they enable us to engage actively with the path of suffering walked by Jesus.
There are traditionally 14 stations—9 scriptural, and 5 based on popular devotion.
The Stations of the Cross in Christ Church have been painted by Alan Cooper—a local artist and member of this congregation.
They are intended as a focus for prayer, as we contemplate the meaning of Christ’s suffering in our own lives.
Some thoughts by the artist are available here, to help you in your prayers as you look at these images..
