Hall Secretary

Joan Bennett

I became the appointed person for dealing with hall bookings in August 2006, as our then Vicar and his wife were planning their retirement.  I am part of a small comittee who has the responsibility for the general oversight of the hall.  The hall is well used, and I am happy to be involved in the service to our community that this hall provides.
I am married to Bob, a retired Civil Servant, and we have both worshipped at Christ Church for about 20 years.  I have two grown up sons and three grandsons.  Both my sons married at Christ Church, and my grandsons were baptised there.
I was baptised, confirmed, and married at Milton Church.  After our move from Gravesend we worshipped, for some while, at our local free church, and I became a Deacon, an Elder, and Church Secretary, before returening to CofE and Gravesend.
I trained at Avery Hill College as an Infant teacher and spent the last 19 years in that profession as a Headteacher.  I served in the community for 13 years as a trained advisor for the Gravesend Citizens Advice Bureau, and was for a short while on it's management commitee, and represented the bureau on the Gravesham and Dartford Domestic Violence forum, having been instrumental in establishing it.  As a former member of Soroptimist International I have been involved in addressing local and global issues and have served on other committees such as Arthritis research, mainly raising the profile of its work and fundraising.  I view managing the hall at Christ Church as an extension of my work in the community.
